In today’s blog, I will be sharing a quick description of my Oakland museum tour. Given the fact that I don’t like most of the museums I go to, I can consider this one an average museum. Just so you get familiar with how I view museum: I didn’t like the MOMA in San Francisco. I usually like museum related to things I’m interested in like music, technology… or museums that has historical artifacts. I like exhibitions that has historical meaning. I don’t like abstract things and the new kind of art.
Back on topic, the Question Bridge: Black Males (3rd level, art section) reminded me of the movie Dope that we saw in class. They both discuss the situation of black people in society. It changed the way I think about black people. I didn’t know for example that black people have things they don’t do because it’s a white thing. One person in the video mentioned being smart. I think it is crucial, to abolish discrimination, that they see themselves as equal to the rest and stop differentiating between black and white people things. The same applies to white people to who should not have things that only black people do. Everyone is equal and has the same rights. No one should treat the other as different. This relate to the movie where Malcolm is always accused of doing white people’s things like studying and going to college and being a geek. He’s not the typical gang member who sells drugs and wear necklace. This shouldn’t be happening since there’s a lot of black people who actually go to prestigious colleges as well as white people who stays on the streets selling drugs and hanging out with their gang members. These are all false stereotypes. It’s like hip-hop and rap music. Why should it be black’s music?
I personally like rock music. Rock music is a collection of various music genre from soft rock to indie to blues to hard rock. I like music that involves multiple instruments playing at the same time. One of the best things about that is the wide range of music genre it covers and the different instruments used. It’s very helpful since I can find songs for every mood: sad, happy, stressed, excited… My all time favorite band is Pink Floyd. I also like a lot of other bands like Queen, Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC… I also like a lot of new artists like Kaleo, The Revivalists, Grouplove, John Mayer, Tash Sultana, Passenger… In fact, I play the guitar and a bit of piano. It’s been 3 years and it’s my passion. This brings me back to the kind of music I like since a lot of these artists produces a lot of guitar driven songs. I also like instrumental songs that includes inspiring guitar solos that can take you to a whole new place. As you can see all of this is not related at all with my generation, nor culture, nor religious or spiritual beliefs. It’s true that asking for information about someone can reveal a lot about the person. Your name, origin, beliefs, religion, music taste… they all reveal certain aspects of a person but you can’t base your opinion about someone just by building his/her personality given some facts about the person. That’s happening a lot nowadays due to social networks which only gives you pictures and facts about someone so you build a profile of that person. Social media is actually building blocks instead of bridges because you’re in fact missing out on opportunities you’re not taking anymore.
