The first movie I watched on the big screens in Berkeley was Spiderman Far From Home which was great. Yesterday was the second. I went with my English class’ group to watch Yesterday a drama/fantasy movie at Landmark’s Shattuck Cinemas. So we agreed on a movie that everyone would like to watch and yesterday was a match.
Yesterday is about a singer-songwriter who lives a casual life with my dream job which is making music and writing songs. He couldn’t have the break he needed so he still has a side job at a supermarket. One night when he’s returning home, a bus run into him and he fainted to wake up the next day in a world where the Beatles do not exist. I’ll stop here so I don’t spoil the rest of the movie.
The movie was good. Some things I noticed were the good music and the colors. This movie is full of music and colors and there’s a lot of juxtaposition especially between his life before the accident and after. I also liked the character since he was aware of what was happening with him and the mistakes he’s making. Plus, I can relate to the fact that the character knew his mistakes but wasn’t choosing the right thing to do until the end of the movie.
I think it’s kind of the same experience here and in my hometown except for the chairs here which are not comfortable at all.
Finally, I was just a little disappointed by the movie but I think it is because of the media today: the trailers and articles they post about movies. So when you go to watch a movie like this one which had a lot of media coverage, your hopes are high and you expect something amazing; however, I would certainly recommend this movie because it’s a kind of tribute to the Beatles, it’s nice and the idea is new.
